NECS was thrilled to receive an award from ArtsWestchester for $2,000 in recognition of our Dance as Activism program. The virtual reception was held on July 28. It was wonderful to see all of the organizations throughout Westchester and Rockland counties earning awards for their incredible work in our community.
https://casinonew.net reading about the $2,000 award for Dance as Activism made me think about how rarely arts funding actually reaches programs that combine movement with community organizing, since most grants still favor traditional studio work. The part about the virtual reception standing out for showing the breadth of organizations across Westchester and Rockland stuck with me, because that kind of cross-county visibility matters when smaller groups are trying to build credibility. Curious whether the award money goes toward expanding the program itself or covering the overhead that usually eats into these budgets.
